With the 2025 local body elections fast approaching, nominations for key roles across Invercargill remain low — with even some incumbent councillors yet to confirm whether they will stand again. This will be the first mayoral race without an incumbent since the late Eve Poole, as Mayor Nobby Clark has confirmed he will not seek re-election.

A snap online poll conducted by What’s On Invers shows Alex Crackett as the early frontrunner in the race for Invercargill City Mayor in 2025. The poll, which ran through SurveySparrow, attracted 880 completions out of 1,517 visits — a 100% completion rate from those who started the survey. Respondents

As of 1:04pm on 18 July, the confirmed candidate list is slowly growing for the Invercargill Mayoralty, City Council, Invercargill Licensing Trust (ILT), and Bluff Community Board.
