Nominations for candidates for Environment Southland closed today for the 2025 local body elections, with 18 nominations received.

Elections will only be required in the Hokonui and Invercargill-Rakiura constituencies, as the number of candidates in the other constituencies matches the number of available vacancies.

Deputy electoral officer Paula Burke said the close of nominations marks the start of the voting process.
“Now it’s over to the community to make their choice. These candidates have put their hands up to represent you. Your vote decides who will help shape the region’s future,” she said.
Voting papers will be mailed from 9 September, with voting closing at 12 noon on Saturday, 11 October.
