After a very long illness on Monday 2 March 2026 in the care of Southland Hospital; aged 70 years. Dearly loved son of the late Isabel and Bernard, loved brother and brother-in-law of Gaynor and Charlie, Maureen and Lochie*, Jimmy* and Rochelle. A loved uncle of all his nieces and nephews. SOPER, Lenore Margaret, Lenny or Polly), nee Te Maiharoa:
Passed Peacefully on Thursday, 26th February, 2026 in the care of the wonderful staff at Hawthorndale Care Village, aged 87. Beloved wife of Murray*. Beloved Mum of Sandra and Andrew (Sandy and Andy) Johnson (Invercargill), Sonny and Annie (Waikaia), Ricky* and Liz (Brisbane), Eruera (Ed) and Errolyne (Brisbane), and Sharon (Auckland). Loved Nana of her grandchildren Trudy, Stefan, Michelle, Jason, Jamie, Daniel and Henry; and Great-Grandma of all her Grandies.
Will be sadly missed.

Beloved wife of the late George Mackintosh (Mac). Loved mother and mother-in-law of David and Jackie (Te Anau), Allan and Rose, and Brian (Avondale). Loved grandmother of Hayley, Aimee, Shaun, Matthew and Elle. Treasured great-grandmother of Monty, Walter, Ray, Harriet, and Finley. A Requiem Mass to celebrate Rita's life will be held at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 84 Great North Road, Winton, on Thursday, March 5, at 11.00am. Private interment thereafter. TAPPER, Elizabeth Helen (Liz) nee Gardner:
Passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Hawthorndale Care Village on Saturday 28 February 2026, aged 84 years. Dearly loved wife of Hugh for 61 years. Cherished mother and mother in law of Michael and Bernie, Richard and Frances, Janet, Joanne and Martin, Ruth and Scott, Penny and Isaac. Proud and supportive Nana of her 16 grandchildren and loved by the extended Gardner and Tapper families.
‘Throughout Elizabeth’s life she was a dedicated and generous contributor to the Southland Community’.
In lieu of flowers donations to The Little Miracles Trust would be greatly appreciated and can be left at her service. A Funeral Service for Elizabeth will be held on Tuesday 10th March 2026, 11am at First Church, Tay Street Invercargill. Private Cremation will follow. WATSON, Ian:
On Friday, February 27, 2026, peacefully with family by his side, at Ranui Home and Hospital, Alexandra; aged 73 years. Loved husband of Paulette, loved Dad and father-in-law of Emma and Karl, Aaron and Jo, and Glenn and Lauren, loved Poppa of Ben; Ayson, Alia, and Hunter; Ava, Dani, Lyla, and Mitchell. Loved son of Melody* and Robert* Watson. Loved son-in-law of Margaret* and Charles* Chittock. Loved by all the Watson and Chittock families, loved uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Family thank the staff of Ranui for their dedicated care and support. Stu was a friend of many and will be sorely missed.
