It's that time again. The weekend is here, the venues are ready, and there's no shortage of live music across Southland to keep you busy from Friday night through to Sunday. Here's where to be.

Friday, May 8

Niche at The Langlands Hotel Start the evening with something special. Niche — on the ground floor of The Langlands — is open tonight, and the vibe speaks for itself: warm lighting, good music, and a glass worth savouring. Walk-ins are welcome, or reserve ahead by calling 0800 84 86 88. For Niche reservations and enquiries: 0800 84 86 88. The Langlands Hotel is on Facebook @thelanglandshotel.

Lachie & the Bigbots — Speights Ale House, Invercargill A familiar name, a fresh chapter. Lachie & the Bigbots are playing Speights tonight from 5pm, though fans should note that Lachie is currently in the process of rebranding — so this could be one of the last shows under the old name. Worth catching for that reason alone.

The Company — Southland Tavern Friday Night Vibes kicks off at the Southland Tavern from 7pm, with The Company providing the soundtrack. The recommendation is to get there early and start the evening next door at The Thar and Feather for a meal before the music kicks in. A solid plan.

Lara Kerr — The Langlands Hotel, Two Doors Down Live in the Lobby returns at The Langlands tonight, with Lara Kerr taking the stage in Two Doors Down. A great excuse to make a night of it at the hotel — between Niche and the live lobby music, there's plenty to keep you there.

Saturday, May 9

Elscratcho Band — Newfield Tavern Saturday night at Newfield is the full package. Kick things off with Killer Pool and $2 meat raffles before the band takes the stage at 8pm. Elscratcho play everything — 80s classics through to today's hits — and they'll keep the floor moving until midnight. Everyone is welcome.

Pulse — Speights Ale House, Invercargill Pulse are back at Speights for Saturday night from 8:30pm.

Waikiwi Tavern The Waikiwi has entertainment on this weekend. Check their Facebook page for the full details on what's happening Saturday night.
