Some people do ‘Dry July’ - Invercargill JB HI-FI has started a new trend- cold water plunging in the middle of winter instead.

And it’s all in the name of mental health.

Invercargill manager Tony Keay said the business supported six charity ‘Helping Hand’ partners including McKenzie’s gift - a mental health service for children and teenagers.

A third of the staff (8) were brave enough one Sunday night after work to head out on dusk and dunk themselves at Oreti Beach, and now other branches around the country are doing the same.

Invercargill JB HI-FI started the ’Winter Plunge,’ and now JB HI-Fi Dunedin are also involved and have dared Nelson to do the same.

Tony said the JB HI-FI support office in Auckland had their own teams involved within the different departments, and were holding a competition of their own.

And then everyone will come together for a big event at the end of July, where general managers from around the country take one final cold plunge in Auckland.

So far the Invercargill store has raised $1300 from instore donations, while in the Southern area they have raised $5000 - nationally JB HI-FI has brought in $14,000 in donations.

“We are leading the way nationwide as an individual store,” Tony said.

Come into the store to be a part of this worthy cause and make a donation to Kenzie’sGift.. https://winter-swim-challenge-2025.raiselysite.com/...
