Police have confirmed a man has died following a hunting incident near Lords River on Stewart Island on Saturday.
Emergency services were alerted just after midday and a Search and Rescue team was sent to the remote location by helicopter. The man was found dead at the scene.
Detective Sergeant Mark McCloy said, “A search and rescue team was deployed to the island via helicopter, and located the man deceased.”
Investigations are now underway, including speaking to others who were in the area at the time. The Coroner has been informed.

Stewart Island, located about 30km south of the South Island across the Foveaux Strait, is known for its rugged terrain and is a popular destination for hunters from across New Zealand.
