Invercargill Airport has officially opened the Civil Aviation Authority’s Aviation Security Service (AvSec) permanent workplace, marking a significant step in Southland’s aviation future and strengthening the region’s role in New Zealand’s national air network.

The event drew representatives from airlines and infrastructure teams across the South Island, underlining strong regional backing for Invercargill’s growing importance as a gateway. The new facility will serve as a dedicated base for AvSec operations, providing ongoing coordination and support for jet services in and out of the city. It also represents a long-term investment in regional connectivity and operational excellence.

Stuart Harris, CEO of Invercargill Airport, said, “This permanent office symbolises that Invercargill is not only open for business but serious about long-term jet connectivity; the development compliments the upgrades to the screening lane and lounge, which are currently underway.
