Nominations are now open for the 2026 ILT Southland Sports Awards, giving the region's sporting community a chance to celebrate another year of outstanding achievement.

The annual event, New Zealand's longest-running sports awards ceremony, brings together athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and supporters from across Southland to recognise the people and performances that drive local sport.

This year's awards will be held at ILT Stadium Southland on June 12, promising an evening of entertainment alongside the presentation of the region's most prestigious sporting honours.

Awards up for grabs include Senior and Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Coach of the Year, Team of the Year, Official of the Year, Masters Achievement, Community Impact, Athlete with a Disability, and Services to Sport.

The awards recognise excellence at every level, from elite performance through to grassroots contributions, highlighting the people who inspire participation and pride across the region.

Nominations close on May 4 and can be made through the Active Southland website. However, public nominations must also be endorsed by the relevant regional sports organisation.

The ILT Southland Sports Awards have become a cornerstone event for the region's sporting calendar, providing a platform to showcase the depth of talent and dedication within Southland's sporting community.

Whether recognising a young athlete's breakthrough season, a coach's long-term commitment, or a volunteer's tireless work behind the scenes, the awards aim to celebrate all aspects of what makes sport such an important part of community life in Southland.

The June ceremony will bring together representatives from sports clubs and organisations across the region, creating a unique opportunity for networking and recognition within the local sporting fraternity.
