PowerNet has announced the appointment of Paul Blue as its new Chief Executive, following an extensive recruitment process. Blue, who is currently General Manager Network at Counties Energy, will take over the leadership role from 28 July 2025.

Originally from Southland, Blue brings more than two decades of experience across the utilities and industrial sectors. He has held senior leadership positions at Counties Energy and WEL Networks, and also worked in management roles at Transpower.

Power Company Ltd Group Chair, Peter Moynihan, said the Board was very pleased to attract an experienced Southlander back to the region. “While the quality of candidates was exceptionally high, Paul emerged as the clear standout,” Moynihan said.

“Paul brings a valuable combination of leadership, asset management, and technology expertise to PowerNet. He has held senior management roles at Counties Energy and WEL Networks, and management roles at Transpower, giving him strong industry-specific knowledge.”

Moynihan added that Blue’s leadership experience would benefit both the organisation and the wider communities PowerNet supports. “With his significant leadership experience in high-growth distribution businesses and decades of electrical engineering expertise, Paul is exceptionally well placed to guide The Power Company/PowerNet Group into its next phase of growth and development."

Blue said he was thrilled to return to Southland with his family and take on the Chief Executive role at PowerNet. “PowerNet has built a strong reputation for its expertise and commitment to its communities, and I’m genuinely excited to be joining such a talented and passionate team,” he said.

“Southland has always been home for me, and the opportunity to return with my family and contribute to the region’s future is something I’m really looking forward to. It’s an exciting time of change for the electricity sector, and I’m proud to be joining PowerNet as we help support our communities and prepare for the opportunities ahead.”
