PowerNet is a new sponsor of the Science Roadshow, and approximately 2,200 students from 40 Southland and Central Otago schools will get hands-on with science this October.
Over nine days it will visit seven locations — Gore, Invercargill, Winton, Riverton, Lumsden, Frankton and Wānaka — with more than 55 interactive exhibits and live science shows. Topics range from astronomy and movement to human performance, sight, and illusion.
PowerNet chief executive Paul Blue said the Science Roadshow offered students a valuable opportunity to explore science and technology beyond the classroom. "The Science Roadshow brings science to life for students. It's a great opportunity for young people to get hands-on, ask questions and see how science and technology shapes the world around them," Blue said.
"We're really proud to be supporting an initiative which just might inspire and encourage our future electricians, engineers, project managers, and more," he said.
Science Roadshow director Ian Kennedy said PowerNet's support helped make the programme accessible to more students across the region. "We're thrilled to partner with PowerNet. Their support helps us bring interactive science experiences to more students, especially in regional communities. When students can touch, test and explore scientific ideas firsthand, they begin to see how science connects to their lives and futures," Kennedy said.
The Science Roadshow visits 110 locations across New Zealand and is expected to engage more than 40,000 students from over 400 schools in 2026.
