New Zealand reggae act Son & Water are bringing their first-ever South Island show to Invercargill, playing The Shack on Friday October 23 — Labour Weekend.

The Hamilton-based band is led by vocalist Daimond Porima-Ferguson and his father Jamey Ferguson, a founding member of Katchafire who shaped that band's sound before leaving in 2013. That family lineage runs through Son & Water's music — soulful, roots-driven, and built on something a bit more personal than your average touring act. They're also on the lineup for Rhythm and Vines later this year, so catching them in a room this size won't be an option forever.

Local acts Ho and Ha and DJ Teeza are on the bill alongside them, making it a full Labour Weekend night of live music. Doors open at 7pm, with entertainment running late.

ILT Marketing and Innovation Executive Angee Shand said the venue thrived on variety. "The Shack can offer something different from one night to the next, and we're often working behind the scenes to bring new experiences south. We're excited to welcome Son & Water for their first South Island show, with Ho and Ha and DJ Teeza joining them for a great night of music."

The show slots into a run of notable bookings at The Shack. The venue recently hosted two sold-out Hori Shaw performances during his first South Island visit, welcomed King Kapisi on Stags Day in August, and had DJ Phil through over the weekend.

Tickets are available online through Pacific Sounds.
