The SBS Bank Southland Stags have confirmed their lineup to face Waikato in this Sunday’s Ranfurly Shield challenge. The highly anticipated match will kick off at 4.35pm at FMG Stadium in Hamilton.
Sean Withy will captain the side, as announced by co-coaches James Wilson and Nathan White, who expressed their confidence in the group heading into one of the biggest fixtures of their season.
The starting line-up includes Hunter Fahey, Jack Taylor, Morgan Mitchell, Mitch Dunshea, and Alefosio Aho in the forwards, with Withy joined by Nathan Va'atausili and Semisi Tupou Ta'eiloa to complete the loose trio.
In the backline, Nic Shearer, Mika Muliaina, Fletcher Morgan, Faletoi Peni, Matt Whaanga, Tayne Harvey, and Michael Manson will take the field.
The bench features Nic Souchon, Joe Walsh, Paula Latu, Sam Fischli, George Reeves, Connor McLeod, Byron Smith, and Brad Kooman, providing depth and experience for what is expected to be a fast-paced and physical encounter.
Southland last held the prestigious Ranfurly Shield in 2011 and will be aiming to pull off a major upset against a strong Waikato side.
With a balanced mix of youth and experience, the Stags will be hoping to make a strong statement in Hamilton.
