An unexpected donation recently received from Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) to the Rotary Club of Invercargill South Inc helped them to raise funds for two local beneficiaries.
In a one-off donation, SIT gave one student-built dog kennel and a playhouse to the local Rotary club.
Thanking SIT for the generous donation on behalf of the Rotary Club of Invercargill South Inc, Secretary Kaye Crowther reported that the two items had been sold and the proceeds of $1500.00 were distributed — $750.00 each to the Children’s Ward, Southland Hospital, and to No 10 Southland Youth One Stop Shop Invercargill — “for the benefit of children and their families in need locally”.
SIT Programme Operations Manager Tony Lemin said it was satisfying to be able to donate the items to Rotary. “The dog kennels were made by STAR students and the playhouse by Murihiku Tertiary Academy (MTA) students,” who are secondary school students studying in partnership programmes at SIT.
Both items needed to be moved on, said Mr Lemin. “We are a community-based entity and enjoy giving back to our supportive community whenever we are able to.”
