A teenager is due to appear in Youth Court today after being arrested in connection with two aggravated robberies that took place in Invercargill early on Saturday morning.

Police responded to incidents at commercial premises on Tay Street and Dee Street, both reported around 6am. The same individual is believed to be responsible for both robberies.

According to police, the youth fled the scene of the second robbery in a stolen vehicle. Officers located the car shortly after and arrested the suspect near Otepuni Avenue.

Area Investigations Manager for Southern District Police, Sean Cairns, said, “A young person is set to appear in front of the Youth Court today, after he was arrested in relation to two aggravated robberies in Invercargill on Saturday morning.”

He added, “At around 6am on Saturday, Police responded to two robberies at commercial premises on Tay Street and Dee Street.”

“The youth fled from the scene of the second robbery in a stolen vehicle, however was located and arrested by Police a short time later near Otepuni Ave.”

Cairns confirmed that while investigations are ongoing, there is no indication that anyone else was involved.

He also acknowledged the help received from the community. “We’d also like to thank the members of the public who assisted Police with information at the time.”

The case highlights the importance of public cooperation and swift police response in dealing with violent crime. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding both robberies and are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
