The third edition of the iAM Games is set to return to Invercargill on September 13 and 14. Organised by Inclusive Activity Murihiku, with support from Active Southland, the event promises another two days filled with sports, laughter, and community spirit. Registrations are now open for participants keen to join the fun.
Over the past three years, the iAM Games have become one of Southland’s most celebrated inclusive events. Designed for young people aged 5 to 21 with physical or intellectual disabilities, sight or hearing impairments, or neurodiversity, the festival allows participants to try a wide range of adapted sports at several venues around the city.
Kerryn Douglas, chairperson of Inclusive Activity Murihiku, shared, “Our aim is to ensure our community has access to a wide range of quality sporting experiences and we would love to see even more families getting involved.”
Friends and family members are also encouraged to join in, creating a supportive and lively atmosphere. Each participant must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Sessions last an hour, with free transport provided between activities on Saturday, while Sunday events will take place at ILT Stadium Southland.
The lineup of sports for 2025 is extensive, featuring archery, hockey, basketball, rugby, netball, cycling, duathlon, swimming, cricket, climbing, interactive wall games, Ki-o-Rahi, football, circuit training, indoor bowls, golf, pickleball, and boccia.
Douglas added, “The iAM Games is a very relaxed, friendly, no pressure event. The smiles on the faces of everyone taking part is beautiful to see.”
The $25 entry fee includes a t-shirt, backpack, Saturday transport, and lunch on both days. Those interested can register online at www.sporty.co.nz/sportsouthland/Events-3/iam-games.
