This Weekend’s Southland Home Show Offers Plenty of Inspiration

George Owen is excited about bringing Southland’s Home Show back to Invercargill again this weekend.
The man behind the two-day show for the past 31 years said it’s always a great feeling to see ILT Stadium being transformed into a home renovator’s paradise every year.
“It’s great to see it all come together with a number of people involved. It’s quite a big feat to have it all work - like a giant jigsaw.”
Thousands of people come through the doors over the weekend, all looking for inspiration for their new housing or renovation projects.
Exhibitor space is sold out well in advance and businesses come from all over New Zealand to be part of the iconic event.
“Invercargill has been hosting exhibitors from over the Cook Strait for many years, because of the quality of the show,” he said.
Statistics have shown that 17.7% of those attending the show plan to build, 50.6% want to improve their kitchens, 55% are looking at upgrading their bathrooms, 68% are undertaking repairs and renovations, 46.6% will be redecorating, 44% landscaping and 36% are looking for better heating/insulation.
With everything on offer from carpet to blinds, beds, cookware and garden products, this is the place to grab a bargain, because there are some amazing deals and giveaways on the day.
“We do have some demonstrations which are always a highlight, and we have a number of new stands this year that we haven’t seen before,” he said.
There will also be food vendors and coffee to keep people happy as they browse the many different exhibits.
George saw an opening for a Home Show in Southland back in 1996, after being involved in every other home show around the country for 20 years. This included being one of the first exhibitors in Waikato in 1983.
The Southland Home Show is the perfect spot for parents and grandparents to warm up, have a browse and get something to eat when they’re out and about watching kids sport.
The show starts at 10am both days and runs until 5pm. Admission is free.
