It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Val on Sunday 12th July 2026, aged 82 years, in the loving care of Hawthorndale Care Village. Dearly loved wife of Jim for 62 years. Loved mum, mother in law, Grandma and great Grandma of Katrina and Adam, Ajay and Ricky; Lynette and Andrew, Quinten and Samantha, Andre and Claudia and wee Hailey; Andrew* and Lynley*. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hawthorndale Care Village would be greatly appreciated and can be left at Val’s service. A Farewell for Val will be held on Monday 20th July 2026, 1.30pm in J Fraser and Sons Chapel, corner Esk and Doon Street, Invercargill. Interment at Eastern Cemetery will follow. Suddenly at home, after a long illness, on Sunday 12 July 2026, in his 84th year. Dearly loved husband of Marjory (née Paisley). Loved father of Paul Smith, and Debbie Smith. Adored and loved grandad of Scarlett, Brock, Summer, and Jake. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Kevin*, Barry*, Trevor*, Patricia and Stan* Murdoch, Denise Smith, Gail and Alan Paisley, Noeline and Bryan Hartstonge, Garry and Andrea Smith, and a loved uncle of all his nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate John’s life will be held in the Avenal Park Chapel, 75 Fox Street, on Wednesday 15 July at 11.00am.
