Accounting students at Southern Institute of Technology showed strong enthusiasm at a careers event that connected them with industry professionals last week.

The 'Find Your Fit' event at SIT's Invercargill campus brought together students, accounting professionals and academics for an evening of networking and career insights.

Career Engagement Manager for Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (South Island), Nicky Hudson, praised the student turnout.

"It was fantastic to see such high levels of engagement from the students throughout the event, with insightful questions that really highlighted their enthusiasm for learning and career development," Mrs Hudson said.

The Tuesday evening session featured a panel discussion with representatives from accounting firms BDO and Findex, alongside SIT academic staff. Students heard firsthand about different career paths, specialisations and workplace experiences in the profession.

The event used hybrid delivery, allowing students to participate both on campus and online.

"The inclusion of HyFlex students online added real value and extended the reach of the session," Mrs Hudson said, noting it allowed more students to connect with industry professionals.

Students had the chance to network informally with employers and gain insights into the skills and attributes sought in accounting graduates.

Mrs Hudson thanked SIT for its ongoing support. "A big thank you to SIT for their continued partnership and support in delivering meaningful employer–student engagement opportunities across the region," she said.

SIT Accounting Programme Leader Lynley Woodward said the event highlighted the productive relationship between SIT and CA ANZ.

"We will continue working together to provide students with opportunities to connect with employers and better understand the diverse and evolving career options available within accounting," she said.
