An Invercargill signage company is doing work at Queenstown Airport, one of the South Island's busiest transport hubs.

Creation Signs is currently undertaking signage work at the airport as part of a long track record of delivering projects across New Zealand.

General Manager Riki Shuttleworth said regional infrastructure work carries particular satisfaction. "We work up and down New Zealand, but it's always a treat to be involved in regional infrastructure projects that people use and experience every day," Shuttleworth said.

"Queenstown Airport plays a vital role in supporting tourism and enabling business throughout the lower South Island. We're proud to contribute our expertise to a project that is so important to the region."

The geography makes this one resonate a little more than most. Shuttleworth pointed to the close ties between Invercargill and Queenstown — the flow of workers, tourists and business travellers between the two regions — as part of what makes the project meaningful. "There is a strong connection between Southland and Queenstown. Many people travel regularly between the two regions for work, business and leisure, so it's satisfying to see a Southland company contributing to an asset that serves so many people."

Shuttleworth is also making a broader point about what Southland businesses are capable of. "Southland businesses are quietly doing exceptional work throughout New Zealand. There is a huge amount of experience and capability here, and we're proud to represent our region wherever our work takes us."

It is a fair point. Companies that win contracts at major national infrastructure projects do not always shout about it. "For us, it's about doing good work and delivering quality outcomes for our clients," Shuttleworth said. "If projects like this also help shine a light on the capability that exists in Southland, then that's something worth celebrating."
