Invercargill's gaming lounge Orion PC's has moved out of the city centre into Windsor to better target its teenage audience.

Started by Ray Luck two years ago, the new move also offers the business a stronger footprint for its store setup, featuring two rollercoaster simulators, and two virtual reality treadmills.

The rollercoaster simulator was built by a local group called ‘underground gamers,’ using big seat movers like a driving simulator, head sets, and in-built fans that blows air like the real thing.

Ray said they’ve even added a harness system “so you actually strap in like you’re on the ride.”

Orion PC’s has eight PCs set up instore and they’ve overhauled the retail front with a lot more collectibles and figures. The gaming lounge now has toilet facilities for customers as well.

With his own office onsite, Ray has the space to carry out console repairs and other mobile repair/tech support.

“Now that we have a newer more open space we are looking at bringing back our monthly community tournaments.”

There’s also retro evenings planned for the 80s and 90s kids.

Next on the list for the underground gamers in the virtual reality world, is a motorcycle ride using an actual bike frame, “that’s going to be a bit of a process,” he said.

Ray said the gaming world has so much more potential than developers are currently putting into virtual reality - and the biggest leap has been moving from consoles to headsets.
