New Trustee Appointed to Community Trust South

Community Trust South has a new board member. Erin Moogan has been appointed to the trust, which manages investment portfolios and distributes grants across Southland and the wider region.

The appointment is one of 25 made across nine of New Zealand's 12 community trusts, announced by Associate Finance Minister Shane Jones.

Moogan is the only new face at Community Trust South in this round. The trust is one of the smaller players in a network that collectively holds more than $3.5 billion in investments and distributes around $100 million in grants each year to organisations across the country.

Jones said the appointees bring a broad range of skills to their roles. "These individuals will help the trusts serve their communities by bringing varied expertise including education, business, healthcare, community services, marketing, sports, governance, law, environmental protection, grant allocation, and community development," he said.

"I believe the trust and their communities will benefit from the rich experience, knowledge, and community links the appointees bring."

The trusts are governed by the Community Trusts Act 1999. Board terms run for up to four years. Jones was direct about what the network represents. "The 12 Community Trusts of New Zealand are the custodians of more than $3.5 billion of investments, and collectively grant about $100 million back into thousands of organisations throughout New Zealand each year," he said. "The work done by these trusts helps to grow and build strong and empowered communities."

Elsewhere in the south, the Otago Community Trust picked up two new appointments — Phil Hunt and Mary Jane Kivalu. The Rātā Foundation, which covers Canterbury and the West Coast, added four: Peter Floris, Pat McEvedy, Lynette Rayner and Erin Reeve.
