The winning ticket was purchased from Fresh Choice Otautau, making it a celebration night for the rural Southland town.
Across New Zealand, eight players matched five numbers plus the bonus ball to secure the Second Division prize. Meanwhile, Powerball has rolled over to Wednesday's draw after no one claimed the top prize.
One particularly fortunate player from Hastings struck it even bigger, winning both Lotto Second Division and Powerball Second Division. Their online MyLotto ticket netted them a total of $44,203.

The Otautau win continues Southland's recent run of lottery luck, with the region producing several significant winners in recent months.
